Just spent a very pleasant 20 minutes tasting fancy olive oils at Grove Stone. Bought two: A small bottle of Koroneiki and a larger bottle of a blend of that and Manaki. https://grovestone.com/
Effect of eclipse on solar farm
Yesterday’s eclipse prompted me to go look at the day’s power production from the University of Illinois’s solar farm.
Just eyeballing the graph, I’d estimate that eclipsing 94% of the sun reduced power production by about 94%.
The solar farm is exactly one mile north of Winfield Village. Jackie and I got a tour of the facility a couple of months ago and I got some pictures besides the one at the top, but haven’t gotten around to writing my solar farm post yet.
The first two nights
The first two nights I was home I was too busy for cocktail hour. Since then I’ve been drinking rum punches (rums punch?) to gradually decompress from the islands to back home.

Toby’s books on the shelf
We went to Undercover Books in Christensted on St. Croix so my dad could look for Birds of the West Indies (which they had, and which Dad did get a copy of). While we were there, Steve noticed that they had copies of Tobias Buckell‘s books on the shelf, including this signed copy of Xenowealth. (Sorry, Toby, for carelessly covering part of your name in the photo!)
A great bookstore, by the way. Excellent SF section, excellent selection for tourists (books on local history, pirates, etc.), great selection of books for locals, books by local writers prominently displayed. I also really like their tortoise-under-a-book logo.
