After some struggle, I think I have the opening scene of the mummy story the way I want it. I also wrote the transition scene that leads into the flashback. The bulk of the story as I had written it already can stay pretty much the same, I just went through and cleaned up places where I'd moved the first mention of certain things earlier. I had thought that would take me nearly to the end, but it doesn't. It turns out that now I've got a bunch of stuff set up, but I actually have to write several new scenes to get everything to pay off. That will have to wait till tomorrow, though.

Jackie and I went and got a solstice tree and decorated it. So, if the sun doesn't come back, don't blame us. We're doing our part.

I got a bit of reading done. I finished Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet. Excellent, excellent magazine. I read most of Asmov's. I had Jackie read the Cecilia Tan story, which she liked. I'm still trying to get caught up on the short fiction, so I haven't made any progress on Dracula or Perdido Street Station.
