Philip Brewer's Writing Progress

Well, I finished the second pass of my rewrite. I think I've got most of the new stuff right. The problem now is that some of the best bits of the old stuff don't fit as well as they ought to. This is the situation that earns the advice, "murder your darlings." The bits that don't fit any more need to go, despite the fact that they're great bits. I couldn't face that this evening, though.

Jackie spent a big chunk of the day with spinners from the spinners and weavers guild. I stayed home and wrote, mostly.

I've been thinking novelish thoughts. I had been just about to start work on a novel (had, in fact, started planning one) a little over a year ago, when I decided to apply to Clarion. That pretty much mandated that I focus on short fiction. And I've done so, for well over a year now. But I think working on a novel would be fun.
